After more than two years of work by Northwest professionals including designers, builders and artisans, Fran Joswick's GreenPodTM home is about to roll off the assembly line. Quil Pod, a custom modular home, incorporates both recycled and recyclable materials inside and out. The Pod's energy efficient design will allow the senior Quilcene resident to live "off the grid."

Members of the press, government officials, and the public are invited to tour our new Quil Pod, talk with GreenPodTM designers and staff, and learn more about sustainable living.

With roof top gardens, outdoor living areas, greywater recycling, and both active and passive solar energy systems, GreenPodTM homes make sustainable living easily within the reach of the average homeowner, said GreenPodTM designer Ann Raab. Every part of the home is customizable, from foundation to roof. GreenPodsTM can even be stacked or joined to one another to create larger Pods.

For Raab, the homes provide an option for those looking to downsize their lifestyle and minimize their ecological footprint. Her GreenPodTM designs provide healthy, sustainable living, while minimizing waste, she said.

"Every aspect of the GreenPodTM has been analyzed to produce as little impact on the environment as possible," she added.

Each GreenPodTM features recyclable and recycled materials in its construction, including energy-efficient appliances.

Their design approach allows the client to create a complete green home right down to their bathroom towels and linens. Designer Suzanne DeVall has developed a textiles line to compliment the Pod's interior palettes. Her fabrics contain 100 percent organic anti-microbial fibers, made from cotton, bamboo and hemp.

The cost of a GreenPodTM varies depending on size and chosen options. The designs are created for Washington's environment, with architectural styles unique to the region, Raab said.

GreenPodsTM are manufactured and assembled by Transform in Burlington, Washington.

Tours of our Quil Pod completed home will take place Dec. 13 and 14 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the parking lot of Transform's manufacturing plant, located at 11857 Bay Ridge Drive, Burlington, WA 98233.
